The gold processing route depends on how the gold occurs in the ore:
Exposed native gold of suitable size may use gravity recovery and conventional cyanidation. Gold associated with sulphides may require flotation followed by concentrate or whole-ore cyanidation. Gold enclosed in pyrite or arsenopyrite may need pressure oxidation, roasting or bio-oxidation before leaching. Low-grade oxidized ore may use crushing and heap leaching. Copper-bearing gold ore requires assessment of cyanide consumption and copper-gold concentrate routes. Silver-lead-zinc ores generally require selective flotation rather than a standard gold CIL flowsheet.
Wear-part requirements can therefore extend from crushing and grinding to cyanide slurry, activated-carbon handling, acidic pressure oxidation, high-temperature roasting and heap-leach solution systems.
