A cone crusher uses eccentric head motion to vary the chamber between the mantle and the bowl liner or concave, reducing material through compressive crushing. Material Information

  • Mantles and bowl liners: manganese steel benefits from work hardening under impact and compression. Select Mn18, Mn22 or composite reinforcement according to abrasiveness, compressive strength, feed grading, chamber profile, power utilization and the actual hardened layer. Do not substitute unvalidated high-chromium white iron for liners exposed to heavy impact.
  • Feed and protection plates: for manganese steel, assess solution-treated microstructure and toughness. For grade 400–500 quenched and tempered wear plate, check impact limits, welding and cutting heat effects, countersinks and fastening surfaces.
  • Copper-alloy sliding bearings must suit the journal, lubricant, clearance and load. Alongside composition, control casting soundness, lead and tin distribution, hardness, concentricity, oil grooves, surface finish and running clearance. Babbitt metal is not a general substitute for an OEM-specified copper alloy.
  • Gear sets: control the gear and pinion as a matched pair, including tooth form, spiral angle, heat treatment, hardened case, surface finish, contact pattern and backlash. FLS identifies the contact pattern as a key reliability requirement.
  • Seals: select NBR, HNBR, polyurethane and other materials for the oil, temperature, dust, surface speed and compression conditions. Geometry, preload, joints and mating-part wear can matter more than hardness alone.
  • Torch rings are sacrificial maintenance parts. Preserve the original design requirement for safe cutting and removal; do not substitute a difficult-to-cut high-alloy steel without engineering approval.
