SAG Mill

High-impact grinding equipment. Select shell liner, lifter and grate materials by wear zone; metal-rubber composites are an established lining option.

A semi-autogenous grinding mill (SAG mill) uses the ore itself and a supplementary steel ball charge for coarse grinding in a rotating shell. Principal wear parts are located at the feed end, shell lining and discharge system. Gear-driven designs also include a drive pinion and a girth gear surrounding the shell.

Engineering Selection Considerations

SAG Mill Wear Parts: What Must Be Confirmed Before Manufacturing?

Identify SAG mill parts from the installed machine and actual interfaces, rather than a generic part name alone. This applies to Metso, FLS, CITIC HIC and other installed equipment.

What information is needed for a SAG mill liner inquiry?

Provide the OEM or brand, mill series and complete model, serial number, liner location, part or drawing number, photographs of existing parts, dimensions, material requirements, ore characteristics and operating conditions.

Can liners be manufactured from the design of a similar SAG mill?

First check the drawings, interfaces, fastening arrangement and operating conditions. Similar mill dimensions or identical part names do not establish interchangeability.

How should liner materials be selected?

Material assessment starts with the wear location, ore characteristics, impact, abrasion, grinding media and failure history, checked against the submitted part documentation.
