Transfer pinion input torque to the mill shell

Large girth gears are generally made in two or more segments. Manufacturing, transport and site assembly jointly determine the final tooth contact. Segment joints and the mounting flange are critical interfaces in addition to the gear teeth.

A girth gear cannot be manufactured from outside diameter, tooth count or photographs alone. Confirm it using the matching pinion data, mounting flange, centre distance, runout and drawings.

Specify material grade, hardness and accuracy class against the applicable drawings and standards.

High-strength cast steel girth gears For equipment originally designed with large split cast steel girth gears. Control steel cleanliness, casting feeding, heat treatment, nondestructive inspection and dimensional stability.
Tooth surface and core properties Determine the through-section quenching and tempering or tooth surface hardening requirements from the matching pinion, contact and bending stresses, and original design.
Finish machining and trial assembly Control tooth profile and lead, segment joints, mating faces, flange, runout and full-ring trial assembly inspection according to the drawings and standards.
