Identify spares by SAG installation dimensions, liner position and heavy-duty drive arrangement

This page supports identification and supply of Metso SAG mill spares. Select™ is a pre-engineered horizontal mill range; Premier™ is configured for individual projects. Before manufacturing liners, trunnions, bearings, gears or drive parts, check the complete model, nameplate or serial number, diameter, EGL, drive, feed and discharge ends, liner arrangement, OEM drawing number, drawing revision, used-part photographs and actual interfaces together.

Standard Models and Key Dimensions

Published Select™ SAG Range and Premier™ Project Identification

The table gives the standard model count and key ranges needed to identify spare parts. Metso's 2025 Select™ brochure lists 31 pre-engineered SAG models and overall dimensional ranges. Dimensions, power ratings and part numbers not publicly matched to individual machines are not presented as verified fixed models. Identify Premier™ installations from project records.

The 31-model range and dimensions narrow the installation search; they are not an interchangeability list for liners, gears, trunnions, bearings or tooling. For Premier™, legacy or modified machines, the Select™ range cannot replace drawings and actual interfaces.

Wear Parts

Wear Parts and Liners: Separate Feed-End, Shell and Discharge-End Checks

SAG wear parts are grouped by systems with similar material and manufacturing requirements. Once drawing references are confirmed, this equipment page can link known numbers to part positions, applicable models, performance requirements and materials.

Feed Throat, Inner and Outer Head Liners, and Transition Rings

Feed Throat, Head Liners & Transition Rings

Covers the feed throat, inner and outer head rings, transition rings and adjacent shell liners. Check the feed end, inlet profile, head segmentation, holes, bolts, retention, material drop direction, adjoining liner interfaces and wear records.

Material review: Candidate materials must withstand large-ore impact, sliding wear, grinding media and cyclic end loads. Select the material and section for the actual operating conditions.

Shell Liners, Lifters and Manhole Area

Shell Liners, Lifters & Manhole System

Protect the shell, lift ore and steel balls, and control their trajectory. Check diameter, EGL, layout, lift height, individual profiles, wear direction, manhole liners, holes, retention, maintenance access and set quantities.

Material review: Select metal, rubber or composite liners by zone according to impact energy, abrasion, grinding media, temperature, structural strength and service-life targets.

Discharge Grates, Pulp Lifters and Discharge Cone

Discharge Grates, Pulp Lifters & Discharge Cone

For SAG mills with grate discharge, covering grates, inner and outer pulp lifters, the discharge cone and filler rings. Check the end, openings and passages, rotation direction, channel segmentation, inner and outer rings, discharge method, trunnion interfaces and anti-blockage requirements.

Material review: Select discharge-end materials and structures for slurry erosion, ball retention, local impact, blockage risk, passage integrity and adjoining-part interfaces.

Spare Parts

Gear Drives, Trunnion Bearings and Heavy-Duty Spares

General SAG spares include girth gears and pinions, trunnions and main bearings, motors, gearboxes, couplings, inching drives and critical connections. Available information supports structural identification only; fixed tooth geometry, materials, heat treatments, dimensions and OEM order numbers are not published without installation drawings.

Girth Gear, Pinion and Gear Drive

Girth Gear, Pinion & Gear Drive

For installations that use a gear drive. Check module, tooth count, pressure and helix angles, face width, rotation direction, split construction, shaft bore, center distance, tooth-surface treatment, lubrication and the mating pinion.

Material review: Confirm gears and pinions against torque, fatigue, tooth contact, lubrication, accuracy, heat-treatment and inspection requirements.

Special Tooling

Relining Tools with Documented SAG Applicability

Only the Tube Mill Reline Machine, explicitly identified by Metso for smaller SAG and ball mills, is shown. Applicability of other MRM, jacking, bolting or transport tools requires the specific SAG opening, dimensions, liners, lifting requirements and site layout.

Tube Mill Reline Machine for Smaller SAG and Ball Mills

Tube Mill Reline Machine

Metso describes Tube MRM as a compact relining solution for smaller SAG and ball mills. A fixed three-axis hydraulic lifting structure assists liner handling and positioning. Suitability for a particular SAG still depends on the opening, dimensions, liners, lifting, deck and site safety conditions.

Material review: Tooling is not selected as a wear-part material. The associated liners, lifting points, bolts, loads, structure and safety conditions require a separate technical review.

Drawing and Part Numbers

Match Metso SAG Drawings, Third-Party References and Used Parts

Published information identifies series, model counts and dimensional ranges. It does not justify presenting unverified liner, grate, lifter, gear, trunnion, bearing or tooling numbers as general order numbers. Match known OEM references, third-party numbers or used-part information after checking model, position and drawing revision.

Identification rule: Establish part-number applicability only when the complete model, diameter, EGL, drive, feed or discharge end, discharge method, installation position, drawing number and revision, and actual interfaces agree. The Select™ range of 31 models, a Premier™ project name or similar appearance cannot replace OEM drawings.

What is needed to quote Metso SAG liners, drive or load-bearing spares?

Provide the Select or Premier series, complete nameplate or serial number, diameter, EGL, drive, feed and discharge ends, discharge structure, drawing number or drawings, used-part photographs, interface dimensions, materials and actual operating conditions.

Are the Select™ SAG series, 31-model range or mill diameter enough for manufacture?

No. They only narrow identification. Liners require position, layout, holes and retention checks; grate-discharge parts require flow passages and rotation direction; drive and load-bearing parts also require tooth geometry, shaft ends, bearing structure, drawing revision and actual interfaces.

Does the Tube Mill Reline Machine fit every Metso SAG mill?

No. Metso identifies it for smaller SAG and ball mills. Actual suitability depends on the mill opening, dimensions, liners, lifting requirements, deck, site layout and safety conditions.
