Main Function

Forms the stationary outer crushing face and governs chamber profile, throughput and product size.

Replacement Frequency

Very high replacement frequency; assess segment wear, chamber profile changes, mainshaft travel, processed tonnage and the risk of wear-through.

Material Options

Austenitic high-manganese cast steel such as Mn18Cr2 or Mn22Cr2; validated OEM-approved composite or MMC reinforcement options may also be considered

Typical Properties and Acceptance Criteria

Usually comprises liner segments with different heights and curvatures, each carrying a different wear load. Typical high-manganese steel starts at approximately 180–240 HB and work-hardens under impact and compression. Verify chemical composition, solution-treated microstructure, casting quality, segment matching, support faces, profiles and mounting holes. A single general grade specification is not sufficient for every segment position.

Sliding or three-body abrasion, localized impact and cracking around fastener holes

Material and Design Considerations

Identify material hardness, particle size, abrasiveness, moisture, temperature, pH, impact and tramp material;

High hardness does not replace core toughness, fatigue strength, corrosion resistance or high-temperature performance;

For composite, hardfaced, ceramic and elastomer designs, assess substrate bonding, edge protection, fastening and maintainability;

For parts that mate with shafts, gears, seals, roll surfaces or housings, control fits, tolerances, surface finish and assembly clearances together;

Assess material upgrades using cumulative throughput, dimensional wear, failure modes, product quality and downtime costs.

Equipment manufacturer, machine model, serial number, part number and latest drawing revision;

Part dimensions, unit weight, key tolerances, assembly and fastening method;

Current material, chemical composition, heat treatment, hardness and mechanical property reports;

Processed material, maximum particle size, hardness/abrasiveness, moisture and tramp material records;

Speed, load, temperature, pressure, process medium chemistry and continuous operating time;

Failure photographs, wear measurements, crack/fracture locations and current service life;

Materials and values are for preliminary engineering selection. Final chemical composition, heat treatment, hardness and dimensional tolerances must follow the OEM drawings and technical agreement.
