Flotation Machine

Core flotation equipment. Rotors and stators face slurry erosion and corrosion; rubber and polyurethane coverings are common material systems.

Flotation machines agitate and aerate slurry to form bubbles. Hydrophobic mineral particles attach to the bubbles and rise into the froth for separation. FLSmidth WEMCO is an established self-aspirating design. Wear parts are concentrated in the rotor-stator assembly, which mixes and aerates the slurry in direct contact with solids.

Material Information

  • Natural or synthetic rubber: commonly used for flotation rotors and stators where resilience and abrasion resistance are required.
  • Polyurethane: a candidate covering for rotors and stators, including suitable high-speed flotation applications.
  • A05 high-chromium cast iron: a candidate metallic rotor/stator material for concentrated, coarse-particle slurry, subject to the actual equipment design.
  • Alumina ceramic: a candidate blade-insert material for severe abrasion where the rotor design permits.

Brand Applicability

FLSmidth WEMCO (Denmark/United States), Metso RCS (Finland), Outotec TankCell (Finland), Denver (United States), BGRIMM/BGRIMM Technology (China) and CITIC Heavy Industries (China)

Industry Applications

Flotation of copper, lead, zinc, gold and molybdenum ores; phosphate, fluorspar and quartz processing; coal flotation; and flotation in wastewater treatment.
