The shell connects the mill heads, supports the shell liners and carries grinding media, material and rotating loads. ANRANST provides structural and drawing identification, material and welding-route assessment, weld and dimensional quality control, and manufacture to drawing.
The shell carries rotating loads; the liners provide internal wear protection
The shell connects externally to heads, the drive and attachments, while liners and lifters mount inside. Liners are replaceable wear parts; the shell is a welded load-bearing structure. Their materials, functions, manufacturing and acceptance requirements differ.
Check shell orders together with both heads, the rotation centreline, liner layout, drive position, manholes and foundation installation conditions.
Geometric accuracy, weld quality, flange interfaces and hole patterns jointly affect stable operation
Check the complete rotating assembly when specifying a shell; outside diameter and length alone are insufficient.
End flanges and registers
Check outside diameter, end face, register, hole diameter and spacing, bolt circle, face runout and contact with the head.
Shell plate thickness and roundness
Check inside/outside diameters, plate thickness, roundness, straightness, local deformation and stiffness under operating loads.
Circumferential and longitudinal seams
Check joint preparation, welding procedure, heat input, post-weld treatment, weld profile, defects and NDT.
Liner fastening holes
Check hole diameters, spacing, layout, recesses, sealing, wear, cracks and consistency with liner drawings.
Shell sections, segments and site closure
Check locating datums, connections, joint misalignment, transport limits, lifting orientation and site assembly sequence.
Manholes, stiffening rings and attachment seats
Check opening reinforcement, stress concentrations, weld details, attachment loads and maintenance access.
Specify welded steel construction, axial section count and circumferential segment count
Manufacturer literature identifies structural options. Confirm steel grade, welding and dimensions against installation drawings.
Establish steel grade, plate thickness, welding consumables, preheat, postheat, post-weld heat treatment and acceptance levels through drawings, manufacturing specifications and inspection plans. Images alone cannot establish these parameters.
Analyse cracks, deformation, hole-area damage and flange deviations together
When shell damage is found, also inspect heads, liners, fasteners, drive, main bearings, alignment and operating records.

Identify shells by sections, segments, flanges, liner holes, welding and drawing revision
Provide the OEM drawing number, third-party reference, part number or customer drawing for the installed component, and confirm the revision.
Equipment identification
OEM, series, complete model, serial number, shell diameter, EGL, power, speed and modification history.
Structural identification
Integral construction or axial section count, circumferential segment count, longitudinal and circumferential seam positions, manholes, stiffening rings and attachment seats.
Drawing Number and Revision
Shell drawing number, rotating assembly number, third-party drawing number, part number, revision, project number and physical markings.
Main dimensions
Inside/outside diameters, overall length, EGL, plate thickness, section lengths, roundness, straightness, interfaces and transport dimensions.
Flanges and hole patterns
Flange outside diameter, register, end face, hole diameters and spacing, bolt circle, liner hole layout, head and drive interfaces.
Materials and inspection
Steel heat/batch, plate properties, consumables, WPS/PQR, welders, dimensions, welds, NDT and quality documentation.
