Potash and rock salt ores are relatively soft, so crushing hardness is not the main challenge. The key constraints are:
Sustained heavy loading on underground continuous-miner picks and scraper or belt conveyors; moisture absorption, corrosion and crystallization deposits from chlorides; controlling fines during low-speed crushing; the effects of flotation reagents, hot dissolution/crystallization and concentrated brines on pumps and valves; and potash product size, caking and contamination during packaging.
