Pinion

Pinion

Identify parts for Metso cone crushers, check models and drawing numbers, confirm materials and processes, and submit an inquiry.

Equipment, Models and Drawing References

Identify the installed machine model and key dimensions, then check the part number, drawing number, drawing revision and physical interfaces.

Equipment Series

Metso Cone Crushers

Models and Key Dimensions

Metso HP Series (HP100-HP800), GP Series (GP100-GP550) and MP Series

Drawing Number / Part Number

See the OEM part number table below

Provide the equipment nameplate, complete model and existing part number so that the installation position and drawings can be checked.

Drawing Revision

Confirm dimensions by measuring the sample or using the customer drawing. Cross-check the drawing revision against the model on the equipment nameplate.

Materials and Processes

Select the material grade and heat treatment for the operating conditions, processed material and equipment specifications. The options below are commonly used; confirm the final grade against the drawing and technical agreement.

Alloy steel 42CrMo4 (EN 10083-3)

Candidate material for forged steel pinions; quenching and tempering, tooth surface hardening and mechanical property requirements depend on loading, dimensions and the drawing.

Alloy steel 20CrMnTi

Carburizing gear steel; verify effective case depth and surface and core hardness against the gear drawing and load requirements.

Alloy steel 34CrNiMo6 (EN 10083-3)

Candidate quenched and tempered alloy steel; suitability and mechanical properties depend on drive loads, section size and drawing requirements.

Wear and Replacement Criteria

Common wear patterns and maintenance guidance are outlined below. Determine replacement intervals from operating conditions, processed material and equipment performance data.

Common Wear Patterns

  • Tooth flank contact fatigue begins as small pits and can progress to extensive spalling
  • Tooth flank scoring: inadequate lubrication under high speed and heavy loading causes local welding and tearing
  • Tooth root bending fatigue: repeated pulsating loads cause root cracks and can lead to broken teeth
  • Abrasive tooth flank wear: contaminated oil accelerates surface material loss
Replacement Criteria

Assess replacement against the pitting, tooth thickness and backlash limits in the gear drawings and maintenance specification. Replace immediately if tooth root cracks occur. Inspect the pinion and gear together for wear and meshing condition.

Materials and Process Control

Materials, heat treatment, composite construction and inspection requirements depend on the specific drawing, operating conditions and technical review.

Material Grade / Substrate

Alloy steel 42CrMo4 (EN 10083-3), alloy steel 20CrMnTi and alloy steel 34CrNiMo6 (EN 10083-3)

Heat Treatment Condition

Quenching and tempering, tooth or surface induction hardening, or carburizing and quenching. Verify final hardness and microstructure against the drawing and technical agreement.

Composite / Hardfacing Requirements

Repair eligibility, procedures and acceptance criteria for high-manganese steel liners must follow the specific part drawing and an approved repair plan. Ceramic tiles and composite plates are not universal substitutes.

Dimensions and Inspection

Manufacture to drawings produced from part measurements or supplied by the customer. Critical mating surface tolerances follow OEM requirements. Use UT/MT inspection to assess castings for shrinkage porosity and cracks against the agreed acceptance criteria.

Parts with the same name may not be interchangeable because of differences in machine model, drawing revision, mounting interface or material specification. Use the complete model, serial number, drawing number and drawing before manufacture.
