Vertical Mill

Core grinding equipment. Roller tyres and table liners face particle-bed compression and abrasion. High-chromium cast iron and hardfaced composites are common material options.

Vertical Mill cutaway part location diagram

Vertical roller mills use several rollers to compress and shear a material bed on a horizontally rotating grinding table. Hot gas enters through the nozzle ring around the table and carries fine particles to the dynamic classifier. Coarse particles return to the table, while tramp material and difficult-to-grind coarse particles leave through the reject system. Principal wear parts are located in the rollers, table, nozzle ring, classifier and dust-laden gas passages.

Grinding Table / Table Liner Assembly

Grinding Table / Table Liner

Material Options
High-chromium white iron, Ni-Hard 4 or a steel-backed hardfacing composite
Technical Requirements
Working layer: commonly approximately 55—65 HRC. Control radial wear uniformity and joints between segments.
Grinding Roller Sleeve
03

Grinding Roller Sleeve

Roller Liner / Roller Sleeve

Material Options
Replaceable high-chromium cast iron roller tyres or hardfaced composite tyres
Technical Requirements
Balance abrasion resistance, spalling resistance and secure fit on the roller core.
Segmented Grinding Table Liner
04

Segmented Grinding Table Liner

Table Segments / Grinding Plates

Material Options
High-chromium white iron, Ni-Hard 4 or steel-backed hardfaced composite plate
Technical Requirements
Control segment hardness, thickness and weight variation to prevent table vibration and local high spots.
Nozzle Ring / Louver Ring
05

Nozzle Ring / Louver Ring

Nozzle Ring / Louver Ring

Material Options
Heat- and wear-resistant alloy steel, wear-resistant steel or hardfaced composites
Technical Requirements
Requires erosion and thermal cycling resistance; the working layer is commonly approximately 45—60 HRC, depending on specification.
Air Classifier Blade
06

Air Classifier Blade

Classifier Blade / Vane

Material Options
NM400/NM450, hardfaced wear plate or ceramic composites
Technical Requirements
Wear-resistant steel: approximately 400—500 HBW; hardfacing: commonly approximately 55—62 HRC. Control blade weight balance.
Dam Ring
07

Dam Ring

Dam Ring / Retention Ring

Material Options
Wear-resistant steel, low-alloy cast steel or hardfaced composites
Technical Requirements
Requires erosion and deformation resistance. Height and clearance directly affect material bed thickness.

Material Options
NM450/NM500, bimetallic or ceramic-rubber composites
Technical Requirements
Account for falling-material impact, erosion and buildup, using replaceable sections.
Reject Chute Liner
10

Reject Chute Liner

Reject Chute Liner

Material Options
NM400—NM500 or bimetallic composite plate
Technical Requirements
Resists impacts from tramp iron, coarse particles and hot material, with additional protection at changes in flow direction.
Grinding Roller Bearing / Seal
11

Grinding Roller Bearing / Seal

Roller Bearing / Bearing Seal

Material Options
GCr15/100Cr6 bearing steel; NBR, HNBR or FKM seals
