Individual Part Guide

Impeller disc spacer function, dimensions, materials and applicable models

Installed between adjoining impeller discs to establish their axial positions and spacing. Check together with the discs, hubs, vertical shaft, axial fastening and complete layout drawing.

Installation and Function

Part of the disc system in a vertical disc stirred mill

Spacers maintain the designed disc spacing on the vertical shaft, preserving the original chamber energy distribution and transferring axial preload through the disc stack. Spacer length or end-face errors accumulate, affecting disc positions, coaxiality and maintenance assembly.

Key dimensions and identification details

Parameters to confirm before quotation and manufacture

  • Inside diameter, outside diameter, effective length and end-face profile
  • Shaft, hub, key/spline and locating register interfaces
  • Spacer position numbers, quantities and assembly sequence
  • End-face parallelism, coaxiality, runout and surface requirements
  • Axial preload, fastening method and total disc stack height
Materials and Manufacturing

Confirm material and construction against the installed drawings

VXPmill uses removable discs and spacers. Determine spacer material independently of the polyurethane disc material: metal reinforcement, polyurethane coating or other construction must be confirmed against drawings, original parts and material testing.

Typical failure checks

Use wear locations to identify material, structural and assembly problems

  • End-face wear changing disc spacing
  • Wear and looseness at the bore or key/spline interface
  • Insufficient axial preload causing impact and fretting
  • Coating tears, delamination or process medium ingress
OEM and model identification

Model references identify installations; they do not establish common dimensions

OEM / SeriesApplication and identification notes
Current FLS VXPmill product familyConfirm against disc configuration, spacer position and shaft system drawings
FLS VXP2500Documented installed model; confirm spacer quantities and lengths against project records
FLS VXP10000Published project model; the model alone does not determine spacer dimensions
