Confirm dimensions by measuring the sample or using the customer drawing. Cross-check the drawing revision against the model on the equipment nameplate.
Select the material grade and heat treatment for the operating conditions, processed material and equipment specifications. The options below are commonly used; confirm the final grade against the drawing and technical agreement.
Aluminum bronze sand casting; verify composition, as-cast or heat-treated condition and mechanical properties against ASTM B148 and the drawing.
Nickel-aluminum bronze; mechanical properties depend on the casting process and heat treatment condition. Verify compliance with the applicable material standard and socket liner drawing.
Candidate copper alloy for bearings; maintain the lubrication required by the equipment. The material is not self-lubricating.
Common wear patterns and maintenance guidance are outlined below. Determine replacement intervals from operating conditions, processed material and equipment performance data.
Assess spherical surface wear, clearance and contact condition against the equipment maintenance manual. If head movement becomes abnormal or copper debris in the oil remains elevated, inspect the socket liner, mating spherical surface and lubrication system. Use the model-specific drawing for replacement limits and installation acceptance criteria.
Materials, heat treatment, composite construction and inspection requirements depend on the specific drawing, operating conditions and technical review.
Aluminum bronze C95400 (ASTM B148), aluminum bronze C95500 and leaded tin bronze C93200 (SAE 660)
Select the heat treatment condition for the specific copper alloy grade and part drawing; verify final hardness and microstructure against the technical agreement.
Bronze bushings are not suitable for weld overlay repair. Replace the worn bushing as a complete part; surface repair is not recommended.
Verify critical dimensions against the drawing for the OEM part number, including fits, sealing surfaces and oil groove locations. Select nondestructive testing methods for the material, part geometry and technical agreement; MT applies only to suitably magnetizable ferromagnetic materials. Check copper alloy bushing hardness and uniformity as specified in the drawing.
Parts with the same name may not be interchangeable because of differences in machine model, drawing revision, mounting interface or material specification. Use the complete model, serial number, drawing number and drawing before manufacture.
