Sugar Cane Mill

Sugar cane mills commonly use a tandem of three-roll milling units. The top roll and two lower rolls compress the prepared cane, while the trash plate guides the bagasse and roll-end gears synchronize rotation. Wear is concentrated on roll shells, roll teeth, trash plates, bearing bushes and bagasse passages.

Individual and Maintenance Parts

Individual and Maintenance Parts

Roll shell
01

Roll Shell

Alloy ductile iron, nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy cast iron or cast steel substrate

Technical Requirements
Working layer approximately 45–60 HRC; balance compressive strength, resistance to thermal cracking and a secure fit on the roll shaft
Roll teeth
02

Roll Teeth

Same base material as the roll shell; tooth tips may use Fe-Cr-C hardfacing or welded carbide inserts

Technical Requirements
Hardfacing approximately 55–65 HRC; measure the tooth profile and groove helix angle from the original roll
Trash plate
03

Trash Plate

Cr20–Cr28 high-chromium white iron, wear-resistant alloy cast steel or composite plate

Technical Requirements
Working surface approximately 55–65 HRC; use a tough substrate with a composite wear layer where tramp material causes severe impact
Bearing bush
04

Bearing Bush

Tin bronze, aluminum bronze or steel-backed Babbitt alloy

Technical Requirements
Bronze approximately 80–180 HBW; requires seizure resistance, good embeddability and evenly distributed oil grooves
Mill pinion
05

Mill Pinion

42CrMo, 18CrNiMo7-6 carburizing steel or quenched and tempered alloy steel

Technical Requirements
Tooth surface approximately 50–62 HRC with a tough core; inspect tooth accuracy and contact pattern to the specified gear quality grade
Mill crown wheel
06

Mill Crown Wheel

ZG35CrMo, 42CrMo or high-strength cast steel

Technical Requirements
Approximately 260–340 HBW after quenching and tempering; large gears may use split construction, with controlled joint faces and radial runout
Top roll cap
07

Top Roll Cap

ZG270-500 cast steel or high-strength low-alloy steel

Technical Requirements
Tensile strength approximately ≥500 MPa; non-destructive testing of pin bores, load-bearing fillets and welds
Bottom rail
08

Bottom Rail

42CrMo, wear-resistant low-alloy steel or surface-hardened steel

Technical Requirements
Approximately 280–420 HBW; control flatness and parallelism of the guide surfaces
Feed roll and feed plate
09

Feed Roll / Feed Plate

Alloy cast iron or NM400/NM450, with hardfacing where required

Technical Requirements
Working surface approximately 370–550 HBW; tooth geometry must provide grip while limiting material wrapping
Juice box liner
10

Juice Box Liner

304L / 316L stainless steel or food-grade rubber

Technical Requirements
316L is suited to chloride-containing cleaning environments; welds should be smooth and easy to clean, without pockets that retain liquid
Bagasse chute liner
11

Bagasse Chute Liner

NM400, UHMW-PE, rubber or stainless steel

Technical Requirements
Wear-resistant steel approximately 370–430 HBW; low friction and resistance to buildup are priorities for wet, sticky material
