| Typical Properties and Acceptance Criteria | Material and heat treatment must be matched to the pinion. Quenched and tempered designs commonly balance tooth and core properties at around 280–360 HB; carburised designs may use a tooth surface around 58–62 HRC with a tough core. These specifications are not interchangeable between heat treatment routes. Verify material, forging grain flow, UT/MT, tooth profile and lead, runout, hardened case, contact pattern and backlash. |
