Confirm materials separately for jaw dies and protective parts. Manganese steel suits applicable impact-wear locations; cheek plates, protection plates and fasteners must not automatically use the jaw die material specification.
XT710 is a Metso material designation. Confirm the grade, microstructure, hardness and machine application separately for each jaw die and cheek plate specification.
MX is Metso's composite jaw die technology with localized wear-resistant inserts in a manganese steel matrix. Confirm replacement materials, tooth profile and mounting dimensions against the specific drawing.
Candidate replacement materials include Mn13Cr2 chromium-alloyed manganese steel (Cr 1.5-2.5%) and Mn18Cr2 higher-manganese steel for suitable high-impact duties. Both require appropriate solution treatment and quenching.
Specify manganese steel solution treatment and quenching for the grade, section thickness and required microstructure. Inspect dimensions, hardness and microstructure, and apply suitable non-destructive testing. Magnetic particle testing is unsuitable for austenitic manganese steel; select the method for the material and defect type.
Coordinate maintenance of jaw dies and protective parts by considering their individual wear conditions and replacement schedules, to maintain crushing efficiency and safe operation.
Inspect fixed and movable jaw dies and upper and lower cheek plates together. Select the replacement combination from actual wear and chamber matching. Check retaining wedges and fasteners whenever jaw dies are replaced.
Jaw dies designed for rotation may be repositioned following the manufacturer's procedure. Inspect the backs, wedge contact surfaces and remaining thickness. The benefit depends on actual wear, without a universal life-extension percentage.
Inspect wedges, bolts, springs and washers whenever jaw dies are replaced. Use the specified Metso Fastening Kit or drawing-approved fasteners to maintain a consistent fastening specification. Tighten bolts in stages to the recommended torque.
