Drawing Revision

Confirm dimensions by measuring the sample or using the customer drawing. Cross-check the drawing revision against the model on the equipment nameplate.

Materials and Processes

Select the material grade and heat treatment for the operating conditions, processed material and equipment specifications. The options below are commonly used; confirm the final grade against the drawing and technical agreement.

High-Manganese Steel Mn18Cr2

Solution-treated and water-quenched high-manganese steel; surface work hardening depends on impact and contact loading. Verify initial hardness against the material standard and drawing.

High-Manganese Steel Mn13Cr2

Standard manganese steel, a cost-effective option for medium-hard materials

Metso XT710

Metso proprietary manganese alloy designed to balance wear resistance and toughness

Metso MX composite wear material

A manganese steel matrix with wear-resistant inserts. Metso states that its MX for cones products can achieve up to 2 times the wear life of standard manganese liners under suitable conditions. This is not a service-life guarantee for parts supplied through this website.

High-manganese steel Mn22Cr2

Candidate high-manganese steel grade; suitability for a liner depends on the feed material, impact loads, chamber profile and drawing requirements.

Wear and Replacement Criteria

Common wear patterns and maintenance guidance are outlined below. Determine replacement intervals from operating conditions, processed material and equipment performance data.

Common Wear Patterns

  • The lower mantle parallel zone typically wears fastest; its profile gradually flattens, affecting product size
  • Material compression causes surface fatigue spalling, producing a fish-scale wear pattern
  • Wear at the mantle-to-head mating surfaces loosens the installed liner
  • Deterioration or failure of epoxy backing can cause liner loosening and fracture
Replacement Criteria

Determine liner replacement timing from the maintenance manual and actual worn profile. Stop and inspect if product size cannot be corrected by CSS adjustment or if through-cracks appear. Clean mating surfaces, apply backing only where the design requires it, and tighten according to the model-specific procedure.

Materials and Processes

Materials, heat treatment, composite construction and inspection requirements depend on the specific drawing, operating conditions and technical review.

Material Grade / Substrate

High-manganese steels Mn18Cr2 and Mn13Cr2, Metso XT710 and other specified grades

Heat Treatment Condition

Solution heat treatment with water quenching. Final hardness and microstructure must meet the drawing and agreed technical specification.

Composite / Hardfacing Requirements

Metso MX composite liners use a manganese steel matrix with wear-resistant inserts rather than hardfacing. Replace the complete liner; localized repair is not applicable.

Dimensions and Inspection

Verify critical dimensions against the drawing for the OEM part number, including fits, sealing surfaces and oil groove locations. Select nondestructive testing methods for the material, part geometry and technical agreement; MT applies only to suitably magnetizable ferromagnetic materials. Check copper alloy bushing hardness and uniformity as specified in the drawing.

Parts with the same name may not be interchangeable because of differences in machine model, drawing revision, mounting interface or material specification. Use the complete model, serial number, drawing number and drawing before manufacture.
