A doctor system holds a long blade against a roll at a controlled line load to release the sheet or remove water films, coatings and deposits. Blade material, bevel angle, line load, oscillation speed and roll surface must be matched to avoid rapid blade wear or roll damage.

Doctor Blade

Technical Requirements
Select composite doctor blades by elastic modulus and wear rate; metal blades must not score the roll surface.

Blade Holder

Technical Requirements
Verify 6061-T6 properties against product form, thickness and the material certificate. Clamping force must be uniform across the width.

Loading System

Technical Requirements
Cylinder and air-tube pressure ratings must meet the system design; control line-load variation across the width.

Backing roll / support roll

Technical Requirements
Hard chrome on the roll surface is approximately 800–1000 HV; control runout, straightness and surface roughness.

Doctor Beam

Technical Requirements
Provide sufficient stiffness so operating deflection does not cause significant line-load variation across the width.

Oscillation System

Technical Requirements
Shafts may be quenched and tempered to approximately 28–40 HRC; reciprocating mechanisms require fatigue resistance and protection against sticking.

Blade Guide Plate

Technical Requirements
Guide surfaces must have low friction, be free of burrs and accommodate thermal expansion.

Technical Requirements
Select for the water, steam, coating media, temperature and cleaning chemicals involved.

Technical Requirements
Verify bearing properties against the actual model and manufacturing specification. Bushes must meet anti-seizure, lubrication and maintenance requirements.
