Wear and Replacement Criteria
Common wear patterns and maintenance guidance are outlined below. Determine replacement intervals from operating conditions, processed material and equipment performance data.
Common Wear Patterns
- Wear at the mating surfaces of the journal and bearing
- Keyway wear causes a loose fit
- Contaminated lubricant causes journal scoring
- Alternating loads cause fatigue cracks
Replacement Criteria
Repair by chrome plating or thermal spraying, or replace, when journal wear exceeds the design tolerance. Repair or replace damaged keyways. Replace immediately if fatigue cracks occur.
